My name is Gill and I design and hand make sterling silver jewellery in my home in East Devon. My business began as a hobby, I am mostly self taught through experimentation, trial and error and every piece is made by hand at my bench at home in East Devon using traditional silversmithing tools. I use recycled silver, the pearls and beads are sourced via reputable uk suppliers and I make every effort to minimise my waste and my impact on our planet.
Most of my designs are bold but simple and most importantly they are comfortable to wear, made up from an assortment of circles and other geometric shapes, each one with some texture to catch the light. I'm very much inspired by the movement of the sea and the textures and colours I can see on the surface, echoed by the different hammered and drilled patterns on the silver and enhanced by the pearls and gemstones. The colours I choose to use are reflective of orange and purple Autumn sunsets, summery greens and blues and wintery stormy greys. More recently I have been inspired by bubbly, foamy waves, pebbly tide lines and the patterns left in the sand by the receding water.
I find it very therapeutic to watch the sea, if I’m having a tough day or have too much going on in my head just 10 minutes of wave watching helps me refocus. The photos below are just a few of my favourites, all taken on my phone camera with no filter. It never fails to amaze me how the colour and ‘texture’ of the sea is constantly changing.
My Facebook and Instagram pages are regulary updated with behind the scenes, previews of new designs and makes as well as lots of my inspirational photos and videos.
